I’ll never forget…
I was 19 years young, waiting for an elevator, when the doors opened and I quickly moved forward to get in. However, before I could step in, a woman standing next to me stretched her arm in front of me, stopping me from entering. She looked to them and then to me and said, “You need to wait for them to get out of the elevator before you get on. It’s important to respect our elders.”
That woman became my mentor that day. She taught me something I didn’t know…or at least, something that people hadn’t told me before. She was bold enough to stop me in my tracks and help shape me in a moment. Mentors help grow us, point us to what matters, and encourage us on. From that day on, having mentors in my life became a high value for me.
